If something went wrong during an offload
First, the important part: do not wipe the card. Card Offloader never touches your source — there is no delete, no move, no rename, and no format function anywhere in the app — so whatever happened, the original files are still on the card. Keep it that way until the copy is confirmed good.
If a destination folder is still named !!! INCOMPLETE - DO NOT USE AS BACKUP !!!, that name is telling you the truth: at least one file in it was not verified. It is not a backup. The folder loses that name only when every single file has been read back and matched.
What to include in a report
These are the things we will ask for anyway, and having them up front usually turns three emails into one:
- the version of Card Offloader and of macOS;
- what the source was — card type and reader, or the folder you picked;
- what the destinations were, and whether any of them is a network volume;
- the exact wording of the error, or a screenshot of it;
- the CSV report from the job, if one was produced. It lists every file with its size and checksum, and it is usually enough to identify the problem without us ever seeing your footage.
Please do not send us your footage. We do not need it, and we do not want the responsibility of holding it.
Questions we can answer here
Can I use my licence on more than one Mac?
Yes. Card Offloader is sold through the Mac App Store, so one purchase covers every Mac signed in to the same Apple Account. A laptop on set and a workstation in the edit suite are one licence, not two.
How do I know the copy is really good?
Every file is read back from the destination and its checksum compared against the source. A file that fails is a red, blocking error — never a warning, and never a job that "finished with issues". If you want to know exactly how that verification works and why the order of operations matters, we document it: see the verification method.
Can someone else check the report?
Yes, and that is the point of it. Card Offloader writes an ASC MHL manifest that any MHL-aware tool can validate independently of us, including the reference implementation published by the ASC. You do not have to trust our software to trust the result.
Something in the app links here and the page was missing
That is a bug on our side and we would like to know. Tell us which button you pressed.
Before you write
These pages answer most of what people ask, and they are written to be checked rather than believed:
- How verification works — the method, in detail
- The ASC MHL report — and how to validate ours yourself
- Benchmark — measured numbers, with the conditions they were measured in
- Privacy — what leaves your Mac, which is nothing
